The SkyEdge II Hub is the main element of SkyEdge II, which acts as the central point of the satellite network. It is a redundant, modular, grow-as-you-go product. It is located at a ground station/teleport along with the RFT and hub antenna. The hub transmits and receives signals to and from the VSATs via satellites. In addition, the SkyEdge II hub also supports Mesh and multi-Star topologies and can be used on various RF bands: C band, Ku band, Ka band, and X band. The SkyEdge II Hub plays a dual role in the network: 1) network signaling and control and 2) it serves as a gateway for ground traffic to remote sites.
The SkyEdge II NMS is a carrier-class management system that provides a global network view, allowing the operator to drill down to the individual element level. The SkyEdge II Client/Server Network Management System offers operators multi-tasking, centralized monitoring and control of the whole network. The operator can view, modify, and download individual configuration items from the hub and remote terminals. The NMS server is accessed via a homogeneous user interface that runs on the network’s clients. NMS functionality provides network configuration, operator management, network monitoring and control, alarm and event display, and statistics and event collection.
The BWO-II is an optional hub component that reduces the required space capacity of a planned VSAT network by 15 to 30%. More VSATs can also be added to an existing network without adding space segments.
